Pickup plunges off NC bridge
Firefighters used an elaborate rope system to pull the man to safety.

LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WTVD) -- Firefighters in Lincoln County used an elaborate network of ropes Saturday to rescue a man after his pickup truck plunged off a bridge into water below.



It happened just before 3 p.m. along U.S. Highway 321 northbound. The truck landed in Clark Creek.



Firefighters put a ladder truck on the bridge and extended the ladder out over the side. They then used ropes attached to the ladder to hoist a stretcher carrying the injured man to safety.



The condition and name of the driver has not been released and officials have not said what caused the wreck.



Troopers said the he may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
