An inside look at one of the country's two Cheez-It factories in Cary, North Carolina
CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Right here in central North Carolina is one of only two factories in America that makes one of your favorite snacks.
The popular bite-size cracker that you may have at home or you've seen as part of the vendor's selections at work. Whether it's the original, white cheddar or extra toasty Cheez-It, chances are it was manufactured in Cary.
ABC11 was able to get an inside look and tour of the factory as they made the one inch by one inch snack crackers.
The company employs 700 people and says they've made a huge investment in automation processes and all workers are still employed. The only change is more technical higher paying jobs.
Cheez-It Factory Facts
- The factory makes about 14.5 million crackers an hour, thanks to new technology launched by Kellanova, formerly Kellogg.
- The 500,000 square foot facility has been in Cary since 1987
- The factory employs over 700 people.
- Each cracker is one inch by one inch
- If stacked end to end, the amount of Cheez-Its produced in this factory could travel to the moon and back three times.
