LITHONIA, Ga. (WTVD) -- The former transportation director of the Wake County School System was killed in a car crash over the weekend in Georgia.
Police said 67-year-old Vern Hatley and his wife, Willie Mae Hatley, were on their way to church Sunday with another woman when an SUV ran a red light and hit their car in Lithonia.
All three people in the car died.
The driver of the SUV has been charged with vehicular homicide, DWI, and hit-and-run.
Back in 2005, Vern Hatley pleaded guilty to taking part in a multi-million dollar kick-back scheme in the school transportation department.
