RALEIGH (WTVD) -- ABC11 projects that Wake County will approve the Wake Transit Plan which aims to improve and expand transit service in the county.

The plan calls for a one-half percent local sales tax increase for partial funding.

With around 95 percent of precincts reporting, For led 52.8-47.14.

The plan includes four major goals: Connect the region, connect all Wake County communities, create frequent, reliable urban mobility, and enhance access to transit.

The estimated cost of the plan is about $2.3 billion to build and operate over the first 10 years.

The most expensive part of the plan is a 37-mile commuter rail that would transport riders between Raleigh in Durham in 45 minutes or less during rush hour.
