RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- RDU stats for 2024!
A total of 54.20" inches of precipitation was recorded this year. Lowest temperature of the year was 18 degrees observed on January 17th and the highest 106 degrees on July 5th. It was the warmest year on record looking back to 1887 with a Mean Avg Temp of 64.4. It was the third warmest in Fayetteville since 1910.
The start of this year is marked by quiet weather with lots of sunshine and a northwest flow that will allow for cooler temperatures. Clear skies tonight with more high pressure influence.
For Thursday skies will be mostly sunny again with temperatures slightly below historical average.
On Friday, there will be some increased cloud cover with a passing shortwave. However, with it being moisture starved we do not expect any precipitation within the viewing area at this time. Better chances look to be in areas further north and west in the mountains. Otherwise expect winds to pick up in the afternoon. +
Into the weekend high temperatures are expected to continue to fall with much cooler 850mb temperatures.
A system approaching from the Mississippi and Tennessee Valley will enter the region into Monday. With temperatures being below historical average into the upcoming week there is a potential for some rain and snow mix, and even some localized freezing rain near the NC/VA border. These details will continue to become more clear as we approach the upcoming week. Rain and drizzle looks to occur across most of the viewing area as this system passes through the viewing area Monday.
Have a great year!
