RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Surface map this afternoon shows an area of high pressure across the Northeast. A frontal boundary is situated south and west of the Triangle. This will be the focus of any thundershowers this afternoon into the evening.
Tomorrow, high pressure will shift off the mid-Atlantic coast with the front slowly still pushing off to the south and west. With an easterly component to the wind this will allow for some clouds around the region. It will not be as hot as recent days with afternoon high temperatures near the historical average of 86 at RDU. Any pop-up thunderstorms tomorrow will be confined to western partof the state.
The front dissipates by Wednesday with high pressure shifting east near Bermuda. A ridge will build aloft across the Southeast. Winds at the surface will turn from the southwest. The heat and humidity will build across the region starting Wednesday.
The peak of the heat arrives on Friday with the temperatures nearing 100 degrees. AccuWeather RealFeel temperatures will be 100+ Thursday through Sunday. Anyone with outdoor plans this week should make preparations now for the upcoming heat wave.
With the summertime heat will come the typical summertime pattern of thunderstorms popping up in the afternoon into the evening. Though it will not be a washout any day, thunderstorms could produce localized heavy rain and gusty winds.
Have a great evening!
