WILSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A wild police chase which spanned two counties ended with a violent crash in Wilson Thursday afternoon.

The State Highway Patrol said the driver was in a stolen car when he fled after a trooper tried to pull him over on Interstate 95 in Halifax County.

The driver got off onto N.C. Highway 58 and went into Wilson.

Troopers used a rolling roadblock to trying to box the driver in. He ended up side-swiping a trooper's cruiser and a civilian car in the 1700 block of Nash Street.

A short time later, the driver rammed the rear end of a Highway Patrol cruiser, hit a tree, and flipped over in a yard.

The driver was taken to the hospital and released. No one else was injured.

Charges are pending against the unidentified driver.
