ABC11 is a proud sponsor of Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest, a 10-week holiday event in downtown Raleigh, organized by the City of Raleigh and the Downtown Raleigh Alliance.
Can't make it downtown on Saturday? Be sure to catch the tree lighting live on ABC11 at 7 p.m.
The Ice Rink
The crown jewel of Winterfest is the ice skating rink, which opened early again this year to help downtown visitors ring in the holiday season.
Dates: Now till January 31st, 2016 (times vary)
Location: City Plaza at the 400 block of Fayetteville St.
Admission: $10 for adults and children (includes skate rental)
Marriott City Center Time-lapse Camera
Throughout the season, the rink will host special programming to enhance the outdoor holiday experience. For details on promotions, visit www.RaleighWinterfest.com.
The Festival
On Saturday, December 5 from 3-10 p.m. (rain or shine!), the 400 block of Fayetteville Street will transform into a winter wonderland complete with Santa's village, a carousel -- and, of course, the ice rink. At 7 p.m., Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane will light up a 40-foot holiday tree with 14,000 LED lights. This year, a new giant super slide is also being debuted.
There will also be exciting live performances featuring this year's headliner alternative-country band American Aquarium.
Adults can socialize at the popular beer and wine garden and this year Pho Nomenal Dumplings, Season 6 winner of the Food Network's Great Food Truck Race, joins the lineup of food trucks camped out along the street.
Festivalgoers can also help spread holiday cheer to children in need. Donate a new, unwrapped toy at the gate, and you'll receive one free Winterfest ride ticket.
