MOUNT OLIVE, NC (WTVD) -- The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says a woman was found dead in her burning home early Monday.

It happened around 7 a.m. in the 100-block of Bass Lake Drive in Mount Olive.

A neighbor attempted to get inside to save Sharon Kascask, but the intensity of the flames and heavy smoke made it impossible.

When firefighters were able to get inside, they found her dead on the floor of the master bedroom.

A 12-year-old boy was able to get out a bedroom window and run to a neighbor's house for help. He suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, but no foul play is suspected.
