Officials respond to apartment fire

RALEIGH Crews said they faced heavy fire conditions when they arrived at 434 Westcliffe Court shortly after 10:30 p.m.

The fire originated in a two-story, 6,000-square-foot building with garden apartments.

One person was in the apartment when the fire broke out but managed to escape unharmed, Battalion Chief S.A. Richards said.

Five people who lived in the apartment are staying with relatives in the same complex, Richards said.

The investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing.
