According to court documents, Crudup strangled his baby "resulting in bruising and abrasions around the neck."
Documents show the alleged incident happened Wednesday, but they don't say where the incident occurred.
The documents also say the encounter, "caused the interruption of air so the infant stopped breathing and lost consciousness."
The baby spent at least two days in the hospital.
Crudup's criminal history consists mostly of traffic violations. He is currently in the Wake County jail on a $54,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
