Counties put school plans on hold

School leaders wanted to open three new schools during the next two years, but funding issues forced leaders to push back the construction timetable.

The new schools will be built over the next four years.

Students who were scheduled to move will stay at their current schools until the new buildings are ready.

The Cumberland County school system is also having money dilemmas.

Leaders said they can't approve their budget until the state has a spending plan of its own.

Administrators built their budget based on proposals in Raleigh, but they said they won't know if they over or under-estimated until the state budget is finalized.
