Man arrested following standoff

Raleigh police arrsted a man Thursday morning after they say he barricaded himself inside a home.The incident, which police said was domestic, took place at 3316 Rock Quarry Road.

Police spokesperson Jim Sughrue said officers responded to a domestic dispute call at 1:45 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, 47-year-old Robert Eugene Gay, was inside the residence when officers arrived and reportedly had a gun.

Police say Gay's wife, 37-year-old Kelli Michelle Gay, and two children ages 9 and 11 were not in the home when officers arrived.

Robert Gay was taken into custody around 7 a.m. He is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, assault on a female, assault by pointing a firearm and communicating threats.

Both directions of Rock Quarry Rd. were closed while officers handled the situation.
