He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say it appears children got hold of an unsecured .40 caliber pistol and it went off - killing the child.
It wasn't clear Wednesday if the child shot himself or if another child pulled the trigger. Two other children, the boy's 3-year-old sister and 4-year-old brother were also in the room at the time. Police say the other two children were not hurt.
Friday, police said Melanie Yvonne Tyson, 21 and Joey Durrell Tyson, 22, were both charged with not storing a firearm properly to protect minors.
