Cheerleading skirt mystery solved

Michele Brown of Raleigh initially e-mailed ABC 11 Wednesday about the skirts after finding them in a creek near Raleigh's Hedingham Golf Course.

We posted the story on our website and interviewed Brown on Eyewitness News, hoping someone could help find the rightful owner of the skirts. And help did come - from an ABC11.com reader all the way in Tennessee.

The owner of a cheerleading apparel company recognized the skirts, and e-mailed Brown to confirm the brand. Sure enough, it turned out they were manufactured by that company. And after a quick call to a North Carolina regional representative, the company determined the skirts were destined for a cheerleading team in Greensboro.

Apparently the skirts were either lost or stolen during shipping back in August, and the cheerleading team never did know where their uniforms went. But the manufacturer replaced the garments.

The company is now deciding what to do with the recovered uniforms.
