Memorial service held for teen hit, killed

RALEIGH The accident happened Friday afternoon near Durant Road Middle School when two girls were hit by an SUV on Durant Road.

One of the teenagers, 14-year-old Lindsey Fesmire died from her injuries at WakeMed. Her friend, 13-year-old Krista Carcaterra, is recovering from a broken leg and a concussion.

On Monday afternoon, family and friends honored Fesmire at Bayleaf Baptist Church in Raleigh.

"She was a beautiful young woman who loved life, lived every day to its fullest," Pastor Dr. Marty Jacumin said. "One person said Lindsey didn't have cliques. She would reach out beyond the walls that other students put up."

According to Carcaterra's father, the accident happened when the girls - both students at Durant Road Middle School - were coming back from a visit to a Bojangles restaurant. They were crossing Durant Road around 3 p.m. when they were hit.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Durant Road Middle School.

There is currently a makeshift memorial set up where the accident happened. Hundreds have also already joined a Facebook page seeking to create a memorial at Durant Middle in honor of Lindsey Fesmire.
