Pedestrian struck and killed on I-440 in Raleigh

RALEIGH It happened just after 8 p.m. on Interstate 440 Eastbound near the Western Boulevard exit. All eastbound lanes were shut down and traffic was diverted off the beltline while police investigated Saturday.

Police say David Randall Bierlein Jr., 63, of Cary was driving his Dodge SUV Northeast on the I-440 inner loop when a pedestrian crossing the road darted in front of his vehicle. Authorities' say Paul Wayland Johnson, 59, of Raleigh was the pedestrian struck and killed in the wreck.

No charges have been filled in the accident.
