Soldiers return to Fort Bragg

December 23, 2010 4:14:46 PM PST
Nearly 200 soldiers returned home to Fort Bragg early Thursday morning.

They were greeted with cheers, hugs and kisses from friends and family after landing at Pope Air Force Base.

The 27th Engineer Battalion spent the past year in Afghanistan, where they worked with the Afghan Army to beef up security and eliminate explosive devices.

Many were happy to be home just in time for the holidays.

While in Afghanistan, 13 soldiers were killed and more than 100 soldiers from the battalion were recommended for purple hearts.
