Cardinal Gibbons High expanding

RALEIGH

There will be 10 new classrooms with an open courtyard in the middle of it, something both students and parents are looking forward to.

"It's really exciting, being a member of the yearbook staff, to have communal areas where it's a creative area where you can have the sunlight beaming through," offered student Hunter Davis.

And that's not all.

"Along the front, we're expanding the theater, a new gym, some locker rooms and art rooms and the media center, faculty lounges," explained former School Board Chairman John Ruocchio.

The school says the expansion will help keep pace with the growing Triangle Catholic population.

"…you want to keep pace and offer your students the best way you can, you got to keep the facilities up," said parent Mark Enzweiler.

"The school was built to hold 800 people, and then it went up to 1000, and now it holds 1200, and the core was never expanded," said Ruocchio.

Construction will begin right away. It's expected to last about 18 months.
