Goldsboro officer shoots driver in chase

GOLDSBORO, NC

It happened around 1:40 p.m. Monday when officers tried to arrest 20-year-old Jonathan Ray Williams for alleged traffic violations and in a narcotics investigation.

Williams allegedly fled in a vehicle and a short chase began. Williams drove behind a home in the 200 block of Pearson Street and officers got out of their cars anticipating a foot chase.

Instead, Williams allegedly drove out from behind the home and hit Officer Anthony Ravine in the leg before hitting a patrol car.

Ravine opened fire, hitting Williams in the left arm.

Williams was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital before being taken to the Wayne County Jail.

Williams was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, one count of felony drug possession, careless and reckless driving, and an unsafe traffic movement violation.

His bail was set at $600,000.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the police shooting, which is standard practice.
