The Cumberland County Sheriff's office announced Thursday its detectives have arrested a Westover High School teacher for allegedly having inappropriate relations with a student.

Armand Virgil Lee, 43, of Carthon Lane, Raeford, is charged with sexual activity with a student.

Deputies said the 17-year old victim said that on May 13, Lee performed a sexual act with her. The victim further alleged that Lee touched her inappropriately on May 22.

Lee has been teaching criminal justice for less than a year at Westover High School in Fayetteville. He was fired before the end of the school year.

"It is unacceptable. We are not going to accept that behavior from anybody," said Debbie Tanna, with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. "He is an adult and he is somebody that students look up to for guidance and there's more than just teaching a subject. Sometimes you need to teach life's lesson and this is lesson we don't want our young people to follow."

At last report, Lee was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond.
