FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Police are searching for the man responsible for robbing and kidnapping a woman in Fayetteville on Monday night.

The victim, 25, told police she tried to get a ride from the suspect around 7 p.m. in the 300 block of Person Street.

She got into the man's car and agreed on a price for the ride, but the man allegedly got angry when she did not have the full amount of money.

Authorities said the suspect sped off with the woman still in his car. He reportedly grabbed the money she did have and assaulted her, and demanded more money.

The victim was able to escape when they stopped for traffic at Ramsey Street and Grove Street.

The suspect was described as a 40-year-old black male, around 5 feet 4 inches, with a husky build. The victim stated he was well dressed, wearing a plaid shirt, tan dress pants, and a fedora style hat. The suspect's vehicle is described as a Ford Mustang GT, likely a 2000's model, dark green with tan leather interior.

Anyone with information concerning the incident or the suspect is asked to contact Detective W. Lee with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 973-3638 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
