ABC11 Together highlights the strength of the human spirit, good deeds, community needs, and how our viewers can help
WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- Members of the community came together this weekend to package eight hundred Thanksgiving meals for families in need as part of the Wake Forest Police Department's 13th Annual Turkey Drive.
This act of kindness started with Detective Michael Sattler over a decade ago when he drove by a food pantry and saw families standing in a long line for food. The sight moved him to reach out to the community and local businesses to request frozen turkeys to pass out to Wake Forest families for Thanksgiving. A few years later, the Living Word congregation joined in the efforts and soon after began providing complete Thanksgiving meals for those Detective Sattler and the WFPD served.
The turkeys and meals were distributed to the community today by police officers and staff at the Wake Forest Community House.
