RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh Police have released new information about the deadly shooting on Tuesday afternoon on Sumner Boulevard near Old Wake Forest Road.

It happened just after 3 p.m., and responding officers found a man dead at the scene when they arrived. A woman was taken to the hospital. Police announced Wednesday morning that she died from her injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from a domestic violence situation, according to the Raleigh Police Department (RPD)

Investigators say the man shot and killed the woman and then shot himself. Police say they will not be releasing the names of the two out of respect for the families.

RPD is encouraging anyone facing domestic violence to call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE or 911 for immediate assistance.
