North Carolina Central University voted to raise tuition by five percent, in addition to an increase already approved by the state.

Thursday the board of trustees voted for the tuition hike, which would total about $183 a year. Most of the money would go back into the school.

However, the state legislature is not expected to approve the increase.

Lawmakers have already passed an eight percent tuition increase for all state schools with the money going to the state and not the schools.
