Authorities say 19-year-old Daryl Torres was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero that was reported stolen by the Apex Police Department, when he lost control of the vehicle. The car overturned several times before coming to rest at the intersection.
Police found passenger, 17-year-old Ja-Lyn Braen Hunt, ejected from the vehicle. Hunt was taken to WakeMed Raleigh with life-threatening injuries. Torres fled the scene, but was apprehended a short time later.
He has been charged with felony hit-and-run and felony possession of a stolen vehicle. He also was charged with failure to appear on simple assault based on an outstanding warrant with the Durham Police Department.
If convicted of charges related to the crash, authorities say Torres could receive 20-49 months in prison. He is currently being held at the Wake County Public Safety Center.
