In a news release, the Goldsboro Police Department said it got the call around 5:30 a.m. from Assistant District Attorney Michael Rick.
Rick discovered the break-in when he arrived at the building and called 911.
"At this time it is only speculation if the break-in had anything to do with any ongoing trial or case," said the news release.
"The Wayne County Sheriff's Office will be the lead investigating agency with the assistance and cooperation of Goldsboro Police Department," the news release continued.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at (919) 731-1481 or Goldsboro/Wayne County Crime Stoppers at (919) 735-2255.
