A Fayetteville Police Department spokesperson reported 77-year-old Annie Gore finished up the driving portion of her exam and was pulling into a parking space in front of the DMV building at 841 Elm Street just after 12 p.m. Wednesday when she apparently stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.
Her 2008 Acura leapt forward and crashed through a low wall and window in the front of the DMV building.
Several people inside were hurt. Four were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Police estimated the damage to the building at $50,000. There was also heavy damage to the car.
No charges have been filed against Gore. Until repairs can be made to the building, drivers needing DMV services will need to go to the DMV office at 2439 Gillespie Street, near the Crown Coliseum.
There's no word if Gore's driver's license was renewed.
