Funeral held for Ft. Bragg teen

FORT BRAGG, N.C.

Brenton Briggs, 17, died when his car accidentally slid down a boat ramp and into Boundary Lake at Ft. Bragg.

Investigators say Briggs and at least three other people were at the lake on New Year's Day. About 8:20 p.m., Fort Bragg Fire and Emergency Services responded to reports of a vehicle in the water near the boat ramp.

Eyewitnesses told investigators Briggs had climbed in the vehicle as it began to slide backwards into the water and submerge. Briggs was unable to get out. None of the others who were out at the lake Sunday night was injured.

Briggs was a senior at Reid Ross Classical School and planned to attend North Carolina A&T in the fall.
