Seminary student charged with sex offense

A student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary has been charged with second degree sexual offense after he allegedly assaulted another student.

Wake Forest Police said 43-year-old William Watson Birch was taken into custody Saturday afternoon.

Birch is accused of sexually assaulting a 25-year-old male, also a student at SEBTS, in his dorm room. The victim then notified police.

After being interviewed by investigators, Birch admitted to sexually assaulting the victim.  He was taken to the Wake County Public Safety Center, where he is being held under a $50,000 secured bond.

Birch's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday morning.
