Smithfield police were called to the home of Charles and Portia Williams on Bradford Street just after 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
Mr. Williams, 42, and his wife, 50, had minor injuries.
Charles Williams was charged with domestic assault on a female and Portia Williams was charged with simple domestic assault.
Williams is a fire marshal with the City of Raleigh. His wife, according to arrest records, is a corrections officer with the NC Department of Corrections in Raleigh.
