Etheridge, Faison square off in debate

DURHAM

ABC11 hosted the first debate between former Congressman Bob Etheridge and State Rep. Bill Faison. Larry Stogner served as moderator.

Both candidates took several swipes at the Republican-led state legislature. A point of contention came when they were asked about releasing their tax returns.

"It's true I have interests in a number of different businesses, some of them are family, some are not but they involve other people as well," said Faison, "and I believe it's not appropriate to release those tax returns or that information."

"Anyone running for the highest office in the state should be willing to release where their funds are coming from," said Etheridge. "I think that's important, that's why I did it."

Lt. Governor Walter Dalton did not appear at the debate because of a schedule conflict.

Watch the video above to see the debate in its entirety. It will also be shown on television this Saturday, April 14 at 7 p.m.

The North Carolina primary election is May 8.
