Roads reopen after live grenade found

FAYETTEVILLE

Police said a pedestrian walking along the 1800 block of Strickland Bridge Road noticed a grenade along the side of the road. The pedestrian than went to a nearby home to call 911.

Fayetteville police responded and closed nearby roads and evacuated residents until an explosive ordinance disposal team from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office could take possession of the live grenade.

After the grenade was removed, the roads were reopened and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
