It happened last summer in the 4900 block of Hollenden Drive in a condominium complex parking lot just off New Hope Church Road.
Police believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation.
Villaroel pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 39 years in prison.
Pedraza was shot Apr. 27, 2012 and later died from her injuries.
