Fire breaks out at Raleigh apartment complex

Firefighters called to complex after smoke was seen coming out of an apartment early Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to a Raleigh apartment complex early Thursday morning after smoke was seen pouring from one of the buildings.

Crews arrived to the complex on Pridwen Circle, off New Bern Avenue near Interstate 440, around 5 a.m.

The small fire in the stairwell was quickly extinguished. Only one unit was damaged. No one was hurt.

A sprinkler system at the complex also reportedly helped put out the fire.

A firefighter at the scene stated that the vinyl siding on the building had melted. They also said the fire stemmed from what appeared to be a discarded cigarette.
