CHAPEL HILL (WTVD) -- A man robbed the State Employees Credit Union in Chapel Hill on Wednesday.

It happened shortly after 3 p.m. at the State Employees' Credit Union on North Chatham Parkway. SECU employees told law enforcement the robber approached a teller with a note demanding money and left with approximately $1,700.

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office received a distress alarm notification from the credit union, and a SECU employee managed to call 9-1-1 to report a robbery and provide authorities with a description of the suspect.

The suspect is described as wearing a blue, New York Yankees hat along with a striped, gray hoodie, gray t-shirt, black gloves, jeans and athletic shoes. The suspect attempted to conceal his face with a white T-shirt and sunglasses.

It is unknown whether the suspect is armed. Investigators are tentatively searching for a small, gray sport utility vehicle. An SECU employee stated the suspect was dropped off by the SUV, left on foot, and may have been picked up by the same vehicle.

The investigation continues, and the Chatham County Sheriff's Office is requesting that anyone with any information regarding the robbery or identification of the suspect call their office at (919) 542-2911 as soon as possible.
