DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police are investigating an early Saturday morning fatal accident along Interstate 40.
It happened around 5:45 a.m. when, police said, a 2010 International ProStar tractor-trailer driven by Hoang Tran of Liberty struck a pedestrian along westbound I-40 near Barbee Road.
The pedestrian, identified as 50-year-old Darryl Williams of Durham, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a preliminary investigation, Williams had stepped out from the right shoulder where his car was parked and into a travel lane.
Tran and a passenger in his vehicle, Iran Elki of Reidsville, were not injured.
The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
