After considering a switch to Connecticut-based Aetna, the Durham Council voted to keep Blue Cross Blue Shield as the city's insurer

Durham City Council voted on Monday to keep Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina as the city's health insurer.

Council members were considering ditching the hometown company for Connecticut-based Aetna, but some council members raised issues with Aetna's past.

In the 19th century, Aetna issued life insurance policies to slave owners that covered their slaves.
