Officials later said the report was unfounded. An employee at a medical facility at the base outside Washington said an active-shooter drill had been planned Thursday morning, but officials later told workers it was a "real-world" situation.
It later turned out that someone looking out a window saw the drill in progress and thought it was the real thing.
The Maryland base is the home of Air Force One and other military units.
