KANSAS CITY, KANSAS -- A 70-year-old man is charged with robbing a bank because he would rather be in jail than living with his wife.

According to the Kansas City Star, Lawrence John Ripple handed the bank teller at Bank of Labor a note reading, "I have a gun, give me money."

When the teller gave him the money, Ripple took the cash and sat in the bank lobby.

He quickly gave himself up when approached by a security guard.

When later questioned by investigators, Ripple said he had been arguing with his wife and "no longer wanted to be in that situation."

In a demand note, he told his wife he would rather be in jail than at home.
