DURHAM -- One person is dead after a car trying to elude police ran off the road and down an embankment near Hwy 54 and Residence Inn Blvd.
That's close to the intersection with Hwy 55 south of I-40 in Durham.
It happened just after 4 p.m. Thursday.
The Durham Police Department says an officer observed the car speeding and turned on his blue lights. The car took off at a high rate of speed and crashes soon afterwards.
Police said the person who died was a passenger in the car. He was identified as 27-year-old Andrew Terry of Henderson.
The driver has been identified as Jehdon Shenard Ramsey, 31, of Durham. Ramsey has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
