CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- After investigating, Cary police say no charges will be filed after a 9-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle while riding a bike at Poplar Street and Maple Avenue Tuesday evening.

"After looking at this terrible event from every angle, we're confident that this was simply a terrible, terrible accident," said Lt. Steve Wilkins, who leads the Town of Cary Police Department's Traffic Safety Team.

Paul Pham Dang, his father, and three others were crossing Maple Avenue when the third grader at Mills Park Elementary was struck by a car.

Dang was taken to WakeMed where he died.

Family friends have started an online funding campaign to raise money for Pham's funeral arrangements.
