Danny Lotz remains in ICU after found in pool

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Former UNC Basketball Star Danny Lotz remains hospitalized after being found unresponsive in his backyard pool Monday afternoon.

Lotz is also the husband of Anne Graham Lotz, evangelist Billy Graham's daughter.

According to Anne Graham Lotz's Facebook account, she was the one who discovered her husband unresponsive in their swimming pool at their Raleigh home just before 4 p.m. on Ponderosa Road, off Creedmoor Road.

Chopper11 HD was overhead as emergency crews worked on the pool's patio to revive Lotz before putting him on a stretcher and taking him to a hospital where he was placed in the intensive care unit.

The staff at Angel Ministries, which is a Christian outreach organization in Raleigh run by Anne Graham Lotz, said the family is appreciative of all the prayers and support.

Danny Lotz was a member of the 1957 Tar Heel basketball National Championship team. He was a forward on the team which went 32 - 0 that season.

Thousands of people from across the country and the world have been leaving messages of hope on Anne's Facebook page. She posted an update on her husband's condition late Tuesday afternoon.

Lotz has had chronic health problems for some time.

"Ambulance has been there a couple times over a couple of years," said neighbor Jim Rugloski. "I always keep thinking 'I wonder if Billy Graham is there,' and something, you know."

A close family friend of Danny Lotz confirmed that he has been battling diabetic seizures, but it is unclear if his illness played a role in Monday's event.
