Firefighters cut driver from crash wreckage on US-64 near Zebulon

ZEBULON, N.C. -- Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut a person out of the wreckage of a car crash near Zebulon Friday.

It happened in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 64 in Wake County around 11 a.m.

Troopers say a sedan driven by 43-year-old Ricky Pitts traveled off the road and hit trees on the shoulder.

Firefighters cut the top off the car to free Pitts, who was taken to WakeMed by helicopter. Pitts' injuries were described as serious.

The eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 64 were closed while firefighters got the person out of the car and took Pitts to the waiting helicopter.
