RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Thursday was declared 'First Responder Thank You Day' in Wake County, and in the City of Raleigh. First responders from police, fire, the sheriff's office, EMS, and the 911 call center were the guests of honor at a special gathering.

Every year, the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce holds their annual First Responder's Appreciation Breakfast. Thursday marked the ninths year for the event and a record-breaking crowd was on hand at the North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh.

More than 400 first responders, along with business leaders from across Wake County, gathered to celebrate the people who show up when we are having a very bad day.

Our own Bigweather, Don Schwenneker (a former first responder himself), was the emcee for the event. Not only were the first responders thanked, each branch of emergency operations celebrated an act of bravery by one of their members. For a list of recipients from each department, visit the Raleigh Chamber Website here.

Just because breakfast is over, doesn't mean the thank-yous are done. All first responders in uniform, or with proper ID, can get discounts at the following businesses today by heading to the Chamber website here: www.raleighchamber.org/friends-of-first-responders
