Raleigh man drowns near Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (WTVD) -- The body of a missing kayaker from Raleigh was found in the Catawba River this weekend.

Charlotte fire officials said the man fell into the river while paddling at the U.S. National Whitewater Center and never came up.

The victim's family says he got out of his kayak and swam to a buoy before going under. He is believed to be in his 20s.

Authorities have ruled his death an accidental drowning.

The victim has not been identified.
