RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash in the 300 block of Tryon Road in Raleigh.

On Thursday evening, police identified the victim as Robert Earl Lyons, 44, of Raleigh.

Police said it appeared that Lyons' Suzuki motorcycle was traveling east on Tryon Road when a 1995 Honda attempted to make a left turn onto Tryon from a parking lot.

The motorcycle collided with the front left body of the Honda, causing Lyons to be thrown more than 100 feet from his bike and into an oncoming 2007 Toyota. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda, identified as Wayne Curtis Hodges, 58, of Raleigh, was not injured.

The driver of the Toyota, Roberta Alston Sanders of Raleigh, was not hurt.

Speed may have played a factor in the crash. Police said Lyons was traveling an estimated 60 mph in the 35 mph speed zone.

Follow-up investigation of the crash remains underway. No charges have been filed.
