SPCA of Wake County offers free cat and kitten adoptions in June
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- June is National Cat Adoption Month, and it's also a month when cat populations surge.
When cats that have not been spayed or neutered roam in the warmer weather, it leads to a spike in cat births. At any given time, the Wake County SPCA has between 35 and 45 cats or kittens up for adoption.
The SPCA of Wake County is a no-kill shelter and many of the animals saved from euthanasia came from other shelters.
Through the end of the month, the SPCA of Wake County is waiving fees for cat and kitten adoption. Adoption fees normally run between $45 and $55, thanks in part to a generous donation from Scotties Facial Tissue.
In addition to the waived adoption fees, there are other savings from procedures performed by the SPCA.
"That includes your spay/neuter surgery, their vaccines, their microchip, wellness exam...everything is included in that," said Darci Vanderslik with the SPCA of Wake County. "So, its like a $300 value if you were to take a cat to the vet to get all that done. And, you're getting it completely waived here at the SPCA."
