Driver charged after 18-year-old pedestrian dies in Durham crash

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A driver has been charged after a man was struck and killed by a car late Thursday night in Durham, authorities said.

The incident happened about 6:45 p.m. in the 3700 block of Guess Road.

Police said that Iazias Davis, 18, of Durham was crossing the road when he was hit by a 2017 Honda Accord. The car was traveling southbound in the right-hand lane.

Davis was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The juvenile inside the car at the time of crash sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Davis was shopping for Christmas presents for his younger brother at the time of the crash.

On Tuesday, police said the driver, 29-year-old Ebony Donald, of Morrisville, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving wanton disregard, speeding, two counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
