Raleigh police search for kidnapping suspect
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A 6-year-old Raleigh girl was kidnapped from her home, while her mom was inside sleeping, and now police are on the hunt for the man who took her.
The girl's stepfather told ABC11 that the girl is taking everything in stride, as is the entire family, after this terrifying incident. Mom placed a 911 call right after the girl returned home.
"She's here. She just woke me up." she said to 911 operators. "She said there was a man in her room, who picked me up. I came into her bedroom and the screen is gone. The window's open. There's a chair outside."
Police said the little girl was snatched Wednesday morning from her home while she was sleeping. The kidnapper carried her outside. Police say he "engaged in actions suggestive of further illegal intent." Police are not saying what those exact actions were. A short time later, the girl returned home and woke up her mom.
The kidnapping is alarming to parents, who can't fathom being put in that position.
"I would lose it. I wouldn't know what to do. I wouldn't wait for the police to do nothing," said neighbor Adam Lee.
Police and management at the Mission Capital Crossing apartment complex, where the incident happened, have been handing out flyers with the hope it'll lead to an arrest.
"If I find out who did this to this child, they got to go. They got to go to jail," said resident Shirley Fuller-Lee.
ABC11 is told the little girl was not injured. Her neighbors, though, worry about the emotional scars the girl will be left with.
"She's a baby. How in the world can anybody do something like that to her? I have no idea," said Fuller-Lee.
There is a description of the kidnapper, but it is vague. Police say there's no indication the girl knew the man.
